I'm Jeff Sloop, based in the Kansas City area. For over 20 years I've led IT operations and infrastructure for multi-site, multi-brand organizations: building teams, running data center and disaster recovery strategy, and integrating IT after mergers and acquisitions, with security functions built directly into that leadership along the way. True North IT Advisors gives small and mid-market companies access to that same level of leadership on a fractional or interim basis.
How I can help
Fractional VP of IT
Ongoing part-time leadership, typically one to three days a week. I set direction, run the team, own the roadmap, and report to your leadership or board, without a full-time executive on payroll.
Interim & Transition Leadership
Full-time coverage during a leadership gap, M&A integration, or reorg. I stabilize the team, keep critical projects moving, and hand off cleanly when you're ready to hire.
Advisory & Project-Based
Defined-scope engagements: infrastructure and DR planning, IT due diligence for M&A, identity and IAM modernization, and security assessments.
Why fractional
- Senior-level judgment without a six-figure executive search
- Scales up or down as your needs change
- No ramp-up on IT leadership fundamentals: most engagements are productive from week one
- A second set of eyes on infrastructure, vendor spend, and technical debt that internal teams often don't have bandwidth to surface
Track record
Day-to-day operations across the full stack, not just one specialty.
Led IT and security due diligence on six acquisitions, two of them cross-border in Canada, assessing infrastructure condition, verifying assets, and building the integration cost roadmap for companies ranging from 160 to 250 employees and deals from $25 million to $200 million.
Following a merger with an appliance parts company, led full identity (IAM) consolidation to Okta across the combined business, including a mid-project domain and identity migration for roughly 300 employees, with no loss of access.
Standardized every acquired company onto a common IT foundation: Active Directory and Group Policy, Meraki networking with SD-WAN, and centralized firewalls. Also consolidated acquired servers into the existing data centers and migrated legacy phone systems to cloud-based VoIP.
Consolidated four Microsoft 365 tenants, about 500 users, into a single environment, standardizing Office licensing and email security with zero business disruption.
Took a company from servers in open warehouse space to a secured data center, then built a dedicated disaster recovery facility.
Moved endpoint security to a co-managed MDR model built on SentinelOne, a 25% cost reduction with significantly less team overhead.
Who this is for
- Small and mid-market companies, single-site or multi-site/multi-brand, without a current IT or security executive, or between leaders
- PE-backed companies integrating acquisitions or preparing for a sale
- Companies that need senior IT and security judgment now, not in a four- to six-month search cycle
About Jeff Sloop
Jeff Sloop has spent over two decades leading IT operations for multi-site, multi-brand organizations, most recently as VP of IT. His work spans the full range of what a modern IT operations leader has to own: building infrastructure and disaster recovery from scratch, running day-to-day IT across acquired and merged business units, and modernizing platforms like email security, endpoint/MDR, and identity, with security functions built directly into the role along the way, all with a consistent track record of doing it without disrupting the business. He also has a track record of building IT teams with materially low turnover, a rarer skill than it sounds. True North IT Advisors was founded to make that same caliber of leadership available to companies on a fractional, interim, or project basis.
